Rotary Club of Roxas Commences Campaign Against TB in ChildrenThe Rotary Club of Roxas will be starting its campaign against TB on October 17, 2009 with an on-the-spot poster making contest among elementary school students in Roxas City. This will be held at the Gaisano Activity area at the second floor fronting Emponto Cafe after a short lecture on TB that will be given to the participants.
This initiative is a response to the call of the Rotary District 3850 Governor Edgar "Diutay" Sy to Stop TB Now.The activity aims to disseminate information regarding TB in children, to enhance public awareness and encourage health-seeking behaviors of mothers and caregivers by bringing their children for consult in the different health centers that offer free diagnostics and TB medications.
The poster-making contest is open to all elementary school students in the City and they will be given a free will on whatever media they are going to use. The competition will be adjudged in relation to the theme:
"I am stopping TB in children NOW/ Tapnaon ko and TB sa mga kabataan, NOW NA!".
Cash prizes are at stake and the winning entry will be used as the battle cry of the club that will be adopted as backdrop and t-shirt designs that will be used during the "Run Against TB in Chiuldren" (a fun run) on October 25.
Judges for the said competition are pediatric infectious disease specialist Dra. Consolacion Botin, Capiz Medical Society Vice President Dr. Rommel Mosquete, Capiz Provincial Health Officer Jarvis Punzalan, and local artist Jay Borres. The activity is being chaired and co-chaired by Dr. Leah Licanto-del Rosario and pediatrician- allergolist Dr. Cherry Ann Distor, respectively.
