Pres. Pip's Message - October 9

Dear Fellow Rotarians,

The New Generations Month is over but for all the Rotarians who took part in the activities to celebrate the role of the Youth, the past month was a humbling learning experience. On a personal note, I consider the celebration the core of Rotary ideal… to be prime movers of the youth. In fact, it is the statement of this Rotary years’ theme. The youth is the future, and molding them to be good citizens is our responsibility.

I commend the “movers” of the youth with special mention to PE Jerry Lames and PP Megs Lunn for successfully organizing and facilitating the Boys and Girls Week and the 1st Youth Leadership Forum, respectively. Despite the limited resources (and I meant ALL the resources possible) and the unforeseen circumstances that has to happen, we managed to deliver with flying colors!

Almost at the same time, typhoon Ondoy was wrecking havoc in Manila with a lot of lives lost and properties destroyed. The spirit of Rotary has once again risen above the situation to extend help to those people in need. Thanks to Sec Che-che and Rtn Leah for campaigning for donations. To date, we have sent two shipments through Sagip Kapamilya and we are in the process of consolidating stuff to send through our sister club, RC Forbes Park. To our surprise, our unsolicited effort was recognized by no less than the Philippine Daily Inquirer! Congratulations to all of us!

October is the month of vocations… and also R
tn Gary Potato’s baptism of fire. He plans to hold a weekly career talk to select High Schools in the City with the purpose of inspiring and guiding the students to take up the vocation of their interest. Hopefully, this will start on Friday next week after all the confirmations from possible speakers will be received.

On October 17, Saturday, Rtn Leah and Rtn Cheann are planning to hold a poster making contest at the Gaisano Activity Center to drum up the District’s campaign against TB. They will be inviting artistic elementary school students from the different schools in Roxas City to compose a poster with the theme: “I am stopping TB now! (Tapnaon ko ang TB subong!)”. The winning poster will be used as backdrop and T-shirt design that will be used during the “Run Against TB”, a fun run aimed to generate support and attention in the campaign against TB in Children that will be held on October 25, 2009. At that occasion also, the club will be launching the release of the educational pamphlets and posters that will be distributed to the different municipalities in the Province. This is the club’s commitment to the Provinces’ campaign against TB.

In November, our club will chair the Alay Lakad. This has been a very long
commitment with the Alay Lakad Foundation which has been headed and coordinated by PP Dante Corros since he was our club president. We will be discussing the details of the activity this Friday.

We also have created special committees for our 45th Foundation Day Celebration. There are a lot of plans for the whole month of December and everybody’s cooperation is urgently needed. We are also planning for a fund raising project next month, like the Bingo Socials which is presently being worked on by Sec Che-che and Rtn Pancho. If you have other fund raising ideas, we badly need them.

I am again appealing for your cooperation and help for our upcoming activities. I understand that you are busy with your respective careers but let me remind you that it a given that every Rotarian IS busy.

Sincerely,

Pip
