RC ROXAS ENGAGING COMMUNITY TO END-POLIO

ROTARY CLUB OF ROXAS, ROXAS CITY, CAPIZ will mark historic progress toward a polio-free world, while urging community support to end the paralyzing disease

Event among thousands to be held by Rotary across the globe on World Polio Day – 24 Oct.

ROXAS CITY.– Rotary members in Roxas City are among millions reaching out on World Polio Day to raise awareness, funds and support to end polio – a vaccine preventable disease that still threatens children in parts of the world today.

WHAT: END POLIO DROPS

WHO:  CHILDREN 6 weeks to 6 years old

WHEN: OCTOBER 24, 2017

WHERE: BRGY. MONGPONG AND SAPIAN RHU, CAPIZ

Since Rotary and its partners launched the Global Polio Eradication Initiative nearly 30 years ago, the incidence of polio has plummeted by more than 99.9 percent, from about 350,000 cases a year to just 37 cases in 2016. To sustain this progress, and protect all children from polio, Rotary has committed to raising US$50 million per year over the next three years in support of global polio eradication efforts. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation will match Rotary’s commitment 2:1. Without full funding and political commitment, this paralyzing disease could return to previously polio-free countries, putting children everywhere at risk.

“We are one in helping and implementing eradicating polio in the world. We make a difference by participating and engaging our community in the fight against polio,” – Pres Megs Lunn.

Rotary has contributed more than US$1.7 billion to ending polio since 1985, including $1,745 contributed by our group club in Zone 4 from the last Rotary year. We are working on our goal this year and make others respond to the need of the world.

We are privileged to have D3850 Gov. Jundad Legislador and Zone 4 AG Dang Romero with us on this event. We are looking forward to a successful #endpolio activity.
