2011 Boys and Girls Week |
The Rotary International with its many member clubs in
District 3850 (Philippines) has always been in the forefront of giving
opportunities to the young people in search for vital areas in academic
success, good character, to become a better citizen and most significantly, they
develop true good leaders. In the past, it’s called the ‘Youth Week’ and Boy’s
Week.
For many years now, The Rotary Club of
Roxas is helping the young people of
Capiz reach their full potential by inviting them to bond together through
the Boys and Girls Week and find their path to a great future. The one week
experience in actual governance of Roxas City will provide them a life-changing
programs and guidance that make them become a better person and as a better
Filipino citizen of their community.
The participants in this one week event are senior high
school students chosen carefully from the different schools in the capital of
Capiz went through rigid exams and interviews by the members of the Rotary Club
of Roxas, led by its young, vibrant and very active President - Mark Renier Catahay and assisted by its
club Trainer – Past District Governor Mark Ortiz.
To Light Up Rotary, they finalized the acceptance of the 28 lists
of students who are now officially the delegates to an exciting Boys and Girls
Week. The highlight of which is where they will have a visit to Mayor Celino’s
office to formally took office as City Mayor, City Accountant, Councilors, City
Health Officer, etc.
This time they will be in the actual/hands-on training as law-policy-makers
and public servants, as well. This time they will understand more and gain better
perspectives on leadership governance. The challenge is sitting in the session
and suggesting an ordinance which will eventually be approved by them and will
be officially endorsed by the seating student ‘Mayor’ during the one week’s
event.
The one week activities includes: Courtesy Call and Oath Taking
with Mayor Alan Celino, a Leadership Development Program, Session Training and
actual sessions, Educational Trips, Rotary Information and Medical Mission,
too.
The Rotary Club of Roxas has its strong ties with the Roxas
City government that provides them support in the young generation’s endeavors
like the Boys and Girls Week.
In Rotary, we develop leaders who are innovative and critical
thinkers. This year’s theme Light Up
Rotary is “how make a difference every day, in every club, and every country that
we serve.”
