HELP FOR THE HOLIDAYS!

Christmas is the season of hope and sharing, but for some people there is very little to hope for and even less to share with, like the orphans of St. Joseph of Our Lady Of Grace Academy at Brgy. Lonoy, Roxas City, Capiz.

Last December 18, at 4:00 a.m.; while the Sisters and some of the orphans were in Church, the orphanage was completely burned down by fire. Thankfully, all of the 27 orphans were safe including three babies. Some good Samaritans were also quick to offer and donate basic needs like food, beddings and cribs. To this date however, the orphanage still desperately needs a lot of things and a place that the 27 orphans and the sisters has come to call as “Home”.

Because of our desire to help and give hope to these orphans, my group – the Sinadya Glee Ensemble, who performed at the recent Coronation Night of the Fiesta Queen 2010, and my club, the Rotary Club Of Roxas, will organize a fundraising event on December 30, 2010 at the JAVVA Bar & Grill, Grandville, Roxas City. One of our performers at the Sinadya Glee Ensemble and a very talented singer is Gereberne Lozada. She is an orphan at the St. Joseph Orphanage. Proceeds of this event will be used for the immediate needs of the orphans and in rebuilding the orphanage.

We will also be accepting pledges and donations in cash and in kind before and after our December 30 fundraising event. We will be announcing and confirming your donations during the fundraising activity from 6:00 pm to 12:00 midnight. You can course your donation through our Rotary Club treasurer, Rotarian Rodolfo Arce (0917-3120422) or through Rotarian Cheryl Anne Lastimoso (0917-3120277 / 0928-5544007). Donations will also be published in a local daily newspaper, and aired in local radio and TV.

Please help us help these orphans. Your donations will surely go a long way in giving these children something to smile and hope for this Christmas and the years to come. Thank you and may your Christmas be truly happy and meaningful.

STAC Christmas Party

RC Roxas Outreach Program for the handicapped with Stimulation Activity Center - (STAC Kalibo) joined its annual Christmas Gift Giving last December 13, 2010, represented by PP Megs Lunn.

PP Megs Lunn received a cash donation from an Anonymous to buy one of the wishlists of the children - 6 UNITS OF DOCTRON ELECTRON to serve the handicapped CP cases children of STAC.

Donation was received by STAC Manager - Rtn. Joanna Tay-Meren of RC Kalibo.

Likewise, Rtn. Frank and Spouse Tess of RC Kalibo played the usual Santa and Mrs. Claus to give cheers to the children. Recently, the couple donated books for the reading program.

STAC accepts benefactors to sponsor one handicapped kid every Christmas every year, to bring glad tidings to them each Christmas season.

Congratulations STAC and Merry Christmas to all its benefactors. May the light of God continue to shine on you this Christmas season and the years to come.

December is Family Month

At the outset, congratulations to PP Sany for facilitating our Voice of the Youth Zone contest (watch for the pictures and winner information from the District to be posted soon) and to Rtn. Che-Che and Rtn. Toto for the FHM in Roxas City. Keep it up folks!

Ahhhh December breeze!!! We celebrate it with Family Fellowships and Christmas Party. This is the time of the year where we religiously gather our family members, relatives and Rotary friends to join us have fun and experience once again the season with laughter and cheers.

Rotary International has the thrusts on Family on this month. Perhaps because of the Christmas season. Not only because of this, it's also time for bonding and vacation away from home.

How can we be able to reach out to other members of our family thru Rotary?

Send them a Rotary Christmas or Holiday Greetings with the Rotary Logo visibly designed in any of your cards, letters or better yet, send them the Philippine Rotary Magazine subscription. Experience the power of Rotary Image. You can even give them a gift by registering their names on the Rotary Foundation Program. More resources or guide items you can find at shop.rotary.org.

TAKE TIME

Most of our fellow Rotarians, if not busy, are not paying attention to the many E-resources our Rotary E-Learning Center is offering before us. Let's admit the fact that even our weekly bulletin and PRM is neglected by some. Weekly bulletin updates you with your own club's event, while the PRM updates you with our Regional Rotary Events and also you get to know more about what other Rotary clubs has been up to. It is a source of inspiration. At present, we are encourage to save paper, so we resort to E-Learning, which for me is the most effective way to learn more.

The Rotary E-Learning Center is our only resource for the independent study of Rotary, particularly for new members and club officers. It produces training resources for a variety of training seminars held throughout the year for district leaders and for club leaders and members.

We wish you to take time to visit our Rotary E-Learning Center and you will get an enormous load of Rotary Information. This is the only way we can be Rotarized, so to speak. You will only get to appreciate your membership as Rotary members and or officer when you get to read more about our organization.

For those who can't attend a regular meeting, it is suggested to take time and browse the internet and learn more about what we do and what else we can do around the community. There are many opportunities, many resources, but yes, a little time for you who are very busy with work. But then again, think about this, you need to perform the best you can when you are a Rotarian. We don’t perform because we have positions…we do perform because we are expected to perform the best we can, with all our heart and capacity.

So, next time you invite a prospective member to your club, make sure you will be a good mentor to him/her. And the only way you can be a good mentor to your new member, is through Rotary Information (E-Learning Center, PRM, Club's Weekly Bulletin, Rotary World Magazine, etc). We can’t just pretend we are a Rotarian, when you don’t have the knowledge in your heart how it is to be a true Rotarian.

Sooo Nice..

Dear Friends,


I am sending you some of the new paintings of Nice So, a 14-year old painter afflicted with lupus. She has been painting since she was diagnosed of lupus at the age of ten. The prices are indicated for those interested to purchase them. Nice paints and sells her paintings for charitable purposes. Guided by the motto " God's Warrior, God's Painter", Nice D. So is a brave young child whose faith never wavered. She was diagnosed with Systematic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) last October 2006, and it was during her hospitalization that she discovered her artistic ability as an expression of her journey. Instead of seeing lupus as the end of her life, it turned out to be the beginning of her being a warrior of God.


Nice is now in first year high school at the Holy Heart Christian Academy. She is an active member of creative arts and tambourine dance group of the Chosen Generation Christian Church. She is also the President of the Interact Club of the Rotary Club of Forbes Park . Nice's family is not well off. The father is a driver and the mother is a teacher.

NOVEMBER - ROTARY FOUNDATION MONTH

There are as many reasons to support The Rotary Foundation as there are ways to do good in the world.

Member. Contributions to EREY are the primary source of funding for Foundation programs.

Here are a few ways your contributions are making change possible.

5. Fighting hunger

Projects such as these help address the areas of focus of maternal and child health as well as economic and community development.

4. Reducing child mortality

According to the World Health Organization, 1.8 million children die of diarrhea every year, making it the second leading cause of death among children under five. Proper sanitation can reduce the rate of child mortality in many communities by up to a third. Water and sanitation is the third area of focus.

3. Promoting peace and conflict resolution

Rotary Peace Fellows are leaders in promoting national and international cooperation, peace, and conflict resolution. Help support the Rotary Peace Centers . Peace and conflict prevention/resolution is the first area of focus. Read about four Rotary Peace Fellows and their visions for peace .

2. Basic education and literacy

Education helps rebuild lives, whether it's in small rural towns or in war-torn countries. For example, a literacy project sponsored by U.S. Rotarians in conjunction with the International Reading Association (IRA) is helping Sudanese refugees rebuild their communities by equipping them to teach future generations.

1. Eradicating polio

Rotary launched its PolioPlus program in 1985. Since then, eradicating polio has been the organization's top priority. End Polio Now and help fulfill its promise.

Progress on Million Challenge

As of 31 October, Rotarians have raised about $152 million for Rotary's US$200 Million Challenge. These contributions will help Rotary raise $200 million to match $355 million in challenge grants received from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The resulting $555 million will directly support immunization campaigns in developing countries, where polio continues to infect and paralyze children, robbing them of their futures and compounding the hardships faced by their families.

As long as polio threatens even one child anywhere in the world, children everywhere remain at risk. The stakes are that high. (http://www.rotary.org/)

WATER MATCHING GRANT FOR RCC TALON

The Water Man from Oregon - Rtn. George have spoken on his commitment to help us. Gov. James Makasiar and PDG Toto Cua Locsin have replied for their DDF commitment of $2,000 to the proposed WATER FOR LIFE project by our newly inducted Rotary Community Corp of Talon of RC Roxas.

This project will provide clean water to the 40 households or the more or less 2,000 population of Brgy. Talon.

This November, as we celebrate Rotary Foundation Month, we urged other members of the club to contribute to the Foundation for this Water for Life project. Your contribution of $100 Per Rotarian will help augment our proposed budget of more or less $12,000 to solve the Water-Borne Diseases of Barangay Talon.

We are calling to your commitment to community service through this project.

Also, we thank you all for your vigor in doing other projects to collect more funds for our club.

Let us celebrate NOVEMBER by your pledge of $100 Per Rotary, Per Year!!!

WHEN YOU BELIEVE

Faith is being sure we will get what we hope for. It is being sure of what we cannot see. Things happen because we believe.

Have you once in your life doubted your faith? Of course, we are all but human and we are bound to make mistakes and put doubts in our own capability. However, once you believe and have faith, it really would make a difference in your life, and in the life around you.

People come to you for help. At times, you feel bad because you can’t help in a way they can be help. But yes you can. You can help in your small little way. Remember God’s lesson? There is no poor person that he can’t help. There is no poor person that has no skills and talent that he can’t help.

To help and facilitate things at the same time can be exhausting, especially when you know that the people you are helping at times are even more demanding than you think they are. On the other hand, the feeling is so good that when you do help and facilitate things for others, and they get back to you and simply say “thank you”, it really means a lot, and that is FAITH. This is the faith of that person that you can make things happen. Faith in yourself that you can move mountains, and faith in God that HE will take good care of the rest to make it happen.

Oh! How wonderful it is to feel good when you make things happen. Not because you got all the talents, but you are what you are now because of other people who worked hard to make things happen for you. Again, that is faith.

Practice your faith. When you do practice that you always believe and have faith in anything that you ask and do, then it will really open many doors for you. It is in believing that we make things happen. So, the next time you doubt, remember to have faith in yourself, to the people around you and, to God who above all can make things happen.

It is because of faith of the little Prinz to his benefactors, that his wish to have new leg came true. May this will serve as an inspiration to us all that kindness abounds in each other’s heart and when we do believe, we can all together make things possible. Bringing all benefactors together for one good cause, its Rotary’s building communities and bridging continents. Thank you to all who have faith in Project W.A.L.K. Cheers!
