Rotary celebrates 113th of Service Above Self

Feb. 23, 2018. Rotary Roxas, D3850 Philippines and Rotary Jecheon Woelack, D3750 Korea together celebrates the 113th of Rotary Anniversary of Service Above Self. The tender loving care of human beings will never become obsolete. As Mother Teresa said, "It is not in what and how we give, but it is how much love we put in giving."

RC J. Woelack, RC Roxas and LGU Sapian thru Mayor Ike Binas donated one classroom building for use of Grade 5 and Home Economics to Agtatacay Agnorte Elementary School. It was blessed and successfully turned over to the school authorities. The occasion was also graced by LGU Sapian Vice Mayor, Councilors; DepEd authorities, PTA officers, Student Council, Brgy officials, and other stakeholders present.

The new building was a realization and wish come true of the principal when we first met during our first visit in the school last July of 2012.

Thanks to our club secretary Tonette Nette Honrado Figueroa for the persistent and hardwork and PDG Mark Anthony G. Ortiz for the mentorship and guidance. Notwithstanding, the support from Mayor Ike Binas who happens to be a Rotarian, and the couple power of Rtns. Mark Jeong and Helen Kim.

"The school is our second home of learning and it help build priceless social skills, where we gained intelligence, and it instilled us the value to succeed. Today is a memorable occassion to us, to received one school building from the generous and kind-hearted Rotarians of Rotary Jecheon Woelack, Rotary Club of Roxas and Mayor Ike Binas of LGU Sapian.

You have provided us a conducive learning and now we are motivated to aspire and pursue our studies... to learn more and succeed. May you all be blessed a million times. On behalf of the school and my fellow students, I sincerely accept and appreciate your donations. After the program and turn over of the building, the spouses of RC Jecheon Woelack treated the kids to a Jollibee Mascots and lunch packed. Then after lunch, they had fun doing the 'Market Day' where their stars from their teachers they exchanged it with school supplies, blankets, toiletries, toys, etc brought about by our partners from Korea. It was a totally fun and happy afternoon altogether.  /MSL

ROTARY WASH stations

Feb. 22, 2018. Rotary promotes potable water, sanitation and hygiene - (ROTARY WASH). The final turn over of our 4th WASH station at Plaridel West Elementary School, Roxas City. Dedicated to them by Save A Smile Foundation pres Cassidy Mershon, her Mom Carmen Falbo Capoot Mershon in partnership with Gawad Kalinga Capiz thru tita Jessica Veronique O. Yu and GK Dinginan Capiz team and this club. 

Updates on our 5th WASH Station with our sisterclub Rotary Legazpi, D3820. Rotary WASH at Sto. Domingo National High School, Legazpi City.

ROTARY promotes Literacy

Upon the arrival today of the team from Korea D3740, the group went straight to CRAAHS.

Rotary continues to Make A Difference.  Rotary promotes goodwill, friendship and peace thru mutual friendships, economic development and literacy by providing the school with classroom for Vocational Training Center and TechVoc equipment. 

It was a very successful Turn over of CRAAHS III Global Grants project bldg and equipment. We had fun painting, etc.

Rotary Saves Mother Earth

Feb 16, 2018. Rotary Tree Planting. The Rotarians from the three Rotary Clubs of Roxas, Metro Roxas and Metro Roxas Central, D3850 respectively, together with the Rotary Friendship Exchange (RFE) Latvia/Sweden Inbound team of D2410, and in cooperation with the Municipality of Sapian thru the leadership of Mayor Ike Binas (Rotarian 0f RC Roxas), Sapian National High School, Roxas Airport AVSEGroup, and Anya's Volunteers planted earlier today 200 trees at Sitio Busay, Poblacion Sapian, Capiz. 

Rotary International president Ian H.S. Riseley in one of his goals this year during his announcement of the Rotary theme "Making A Difference" last year is about protecting the environment and curbing climate change that is essential to Rotary's goal of sustainable service. This Rotary year 2017-2018 is for each 1.2 millon Rotarians to plant trees and nurture them by going back and visiting them after planting. Each Rotarian is challenged to plant from 1 July and Earth Day on 22 April 2018.

"The results would be far greater than environmental benefit that those about 1.2 million new trees will bring and that every Rotarian will recognize their responsibility not only to the people on our planet, but to the planet itself," Riseley said.

Trees planted were Mahogany, Malunggay, Gemilina, Acacia and Bakayan. Bakayan belongs to the Mahogany family and is mainly used for its timber and also in many medicinal preparations.

Before the event, RFE Latvia/Sweden inbound team made a courtesy call to Mayor Ike Binas of LGU Sapian. Then after the activity, the group were treated to a sumptous lunch hosted by Mayor Ike.

Rotary promotes friendship, goodwill and peace

Rotary Rotary Friendship Exchange is an activity of Rotary International under which Rotarians and their families can carry out reciprocal visits and home stays with Rotarians and their families in other countries. The purpose is to advance international understanding, goodwill and peace through people to people contacts across national boundaries. (www.rotary.org)

RFE Latvia/Sweden Inbound team D2410 experience genuine cultural exchanges with clubs from Zone 4 - Roxas, Metro Roxas and Metro Roxas Central. RFE visits from Feb 14-16, 2018 was facilitated by D3850 RFE Chair PP Pip Victor Federico Acepcion for RY 2017-2018.

Last month, D3850 Outbound team went to Mumbai, India, where PP Pip is the team leader and Rtn. Maxine Galapon is one of its members.

RFE Outbound 2018 discovers Mumbai, India

An ancient Indian proverb says, “Certain things catch your eye, but pursue only those that capture the heart.” We dream about so many things that we forget to prioritize what matters most to us. Being a kid who has always been fascinated by ancient civilizations and world history, I have learned to appreciate their beauty through the words and images of the writers. Setting foot in India was like stepping into a page of history book.

Being a new member inducted only on the 24^th of October 2017, I never really expected that I would be a part of an energetic team of the Rotary Friendship Exchange 3850 with Mumbai District 3141 last Jan. 26 to Feb. 6. With me were highly respectable members who are current and past presidents of the club they represent. Being a few of the most humble people I have met, they have enlightened me with many lessons on how it is like to be a Rotarian who choose to both lead and serve in our own respective communities.

The temples and the busy streets of Mumbai had captivating details that would make you want to go back. We were also able to visit where Ghandi used to live, the Mani Bhavan that is now a museum and a library, and his cremation site, the Raj Ghat in Delhi. A trip to India would not be really worth it without visiting the splendid structure, Taj Mahal. Flying from Mumbai to Delhi and reaching Agra by land was a very enjoyable journey with the whole RFE Team Mumbai.

Our host’s place was really filled with warmth. A home that is almost like a Filipino home where grandparents live with them and a lovely dog.

What a colorful India indeed it was! It has intoxicated my heart with its colors, women in their “colorful sarees, the cows on the streets, and the street foods.

They say that there is always a first time. My first district conference as a Rotarian happened in India while I have not yet attended one in my own country. Such experience was worth like diamonds. We also met fellow RFE Team Members from Israel and The Netherlands at the conference.

I hope that my experience would also inspire more millenials to not just be part of a Rotary Club, but most importantly, to help “Make A Difference”, in the field they choose to excel in, to a home they live in, to a community they interact with, and to himself or herself a promise to serve above oneself.

More than the experience, it was an irreplaceable memory of unbreakable friendships!
